A consistent brand makes a business easier to recognise and trust. We design logos and visual identities for businesses, from the logo and colour palette to typography, templates and a short brand guide. Before you finalise, we run a trademark search, and the rights in the final design are assigned to you in writing.
Brand identity is the set of visual elements that make your business recognisable: the logo, colours, typefaces, imagery style and the way these are used on your website, social media, stationery and documents. A short brand guide keeps them consistent as more people create material for the business.
Two legal points are often missed. First, a new name or logo should be checked against existing trademarks before it is finalised, to reduce the risk of objection or conflict later. Second, copyright in a logo belongs to its creator unless it is assigned. Under sections 18 and 19 of the Copyright Act, 1957, an assignment must be in writing, so the final design should come with a signed assignment to your business.
Once the identity is final, you can apply for trademark registration to protect the name and logo.
