Indirect taxes affect pricing, cash flow and every invoice you raise. Expertvuw’s team helps businesses apply GST correctly after the 2025 rate changes, handle customs classification and duties on imports, and claim export incentives under the Foreign Trade Policy.
Indirect taxes are levied on supplies of goods and services and on imports, rather than on income. In India the main ones are GST, customs duty on imports and some exports, and state levies on items outside GST such as certain petroleum products and alcohol for human consumption.
GST was restructured from 22 September 2025 into mainly two rates — 5% and 18% — with a 40% rate for specified goods, and many items were reclassified. Businesses need to check HSN/SAC codes, rates and input credit positions against the current notifications. The GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has also begun functioning, adding a second appeal stage.
On the trade side, customs classification decides duty on imports, while schemes under the Foreign Trade Policy — such as RoDTEP, duty drawback and Advance Authorisation — can reduce the cost of exporting.
Basis: CGST Act, 2017 and IGST Act, 2017 with rate notifications effective 22 September 2025; Customs Act, 1962 and Customs Tariff Act, 1975; Foreign Trade Policy 2023; CBIC and DGFT notifications. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
From 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall under 5% or 18% GST, with 40% for specified items.
The HSN or SAC code decides the rate, so misclassification leads to short payment and demands.
Credit depends on supplier filings and on the purpose of the purchase; some items are blocked.
GSTAT now provides a second appeal level after the first appellate authority.
Import duty depends on tariff classification, valuation and any exemption or trade agreement benefit.
RoDTEP, drawback and Advance Authorisation are claimed through ICEGATE and DGFT processes.
Many indirect tax demands arise from classification and credit errors that repeat each month.

Yes. GSTAT has started functioning, providing a second appeal stage in GST disputes.
