Refund not received, partly adjusted or stuck on bank validation? Expertvuw’s team checks where your refund is on the e-filing portal, fixes the cause and files the right request — refund reissue, rectification or a response to an adjustment notice.
A refund arises when the tax paid through TDS, TCS, advance tax or self-assessment tax is more than the tax finally payable. It is issued only after the return is verified and processed by the Centralised Processing Centre (CPC), and is credited directly to a pre-validated bank account linked to your PAN.
Refunds are commonly delayed because the return was not e-verified, the bank account was not pre-validated or the name did not match, the claim did not match AIS or Form 26AS, or an outstanding demand from another year was proposed for adjustment. Each cause has its own fix on the portal.
Where a refund is delayed, interest is generally payable by the Department on the refund amount as per the Act. Refunds relating to earlier years continue under the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Basis: Income-tax Act, 1961 (refund and interest on refund provisions) and Income-tax Act, 2025; Income Tax e-filing portal and CPC guidance. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
A return is processed only after it is verified. Unverified returns are treated as not filed after the time limit.
Refunds are credited only to a bank account that is pre-validated on the e-filing portal and linked to your PAN.
If a refund fails, a refund reissue request can be raised on the portal after correcting bank details.
Before adjusting a refund against an old demand, the Department sends an intimation so you can agree or disagree.
Interest is generally payable on delayed refunds, calculated from the date specified in the Act.
Claims of TDS, advance tax or deductions not matching AIS or Form 26AS are often reduced during processing.
Most refund delays trace back to a small number of fixable causes.

Refunds are issued after the return is verified and processed. Many are processed within a few weeks, but mismatches, bank validation issues or adjustments can delay them.
A failed refund usually means the bank account is not pre-validated, is closed, or the name does not match PAN. After fixing the account, you can raise a refund reissue request on the portal.
Yes, but an intimation is sent first. If the demand is incorrect or already paid, you should respond on the portal with proof.
Interest is generally payable on refunds as per the Act, and it is taxable in the year of receipt.
The deductor has to correct their TDS return. Once corrected, the credit reflects in Form 26AS and a rectification can be filed if the return was already processed.
