GST Registration for Businesses in India

Last updated: 2 October 2026

Get registered under GST when your turnover crosses the limit — or earlier, if your business model requires it. Our team checks whether you need registration, prepares the application and handles Aadhaar authentication and officer queries.

Overview

Who needs GST registration

  • Turnover threshold — ₹40 lakh aggregate turnover for suppliers of goods only, and ₹20 lakh for services, with lower limits in some special-category states.
  • Compulsory registration, whatever the turnover — inter-state suppliers of goods, sellers through e-commerce operators, e-commerce operators, casual and non-resident taxable persons, persons liable under reverse charge, input service distributors and TDS/TCS deductors.

The application is filed in Form GST REG-01 with Aadhaar authentication; biometric verification at a GST Suvidha Kendra may be required where the portal flags it. Approval normally follows within 7 working days, or up to 30 days where physical verification applies. Since 1 November 2025, applicants with small B2B output tax can opt for faster approval.

Bank account details must be added within 30 days of registration.

Based on the CGST Act, 2017 and CGST Rules, 2017. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
