Overview

MSME Credit Options in India

Loans to Udyam-registered micro, small and medium enterprises count as priority sector lending for banks, and several guarantee schemes reduce the need for collateral. The CGTMSE scheme covers collateral-free loans up to ₹10 crore (from 1 April 2025) with lower annual guarantee fees and higher cover for micro enterprises, women entrepreneurs and certain categories.

The Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme for MSMEs (MCGS-MSME), run by NCGTC, gives 60% guarantee cover on loans up to ₹100 crore for equipment and machinery. It was modified in March 2026 to include service-sector MSMEs, reduce the equipment share of project cost to 60%, and add an exporter window. Micro enterprises can also access PM MUDRA loans up to ₹20 lakh.

Under the MSME classification revised from April 2025 (for example, micro up to ₹2.5 crore investment and ₹10 crore turnover), your Udyam data should be accurate, because lenders and schemes rely on it.

Basis: MSMED Act, 2006 and MSME classification (revised April 2025); RBI priority sector lending directions; CGTMSE guidelines (April 2025); Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme for MSMEs (as modified March 2026); PM MUDRA Yojana. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
