Home / Insurance — IRDAI / TPA Licence (Health)

Last updated: 2 October 2026
Third Party Administrators (TPAs) process health insurance claims and cashless services on behalf of insurers. Expertvuw’s team helps promoters with company set-up, capital, CEO requirements, infrastructure documentation and the IRDAI application.
Health TPAs are regulated by the IRDAI (Third Party Administrators – Health Services) Regulations, 2016, as amended. A TPA services health insurance policies for insurers — including claim processing, cashless authorisation with network hospitals and related services — under service agreements with insurers.
The applicant must be a company with TPA services as its exclusive business, with minimum paid-up equity capital of ₹4 crore, and must maintain net worth of at least ₹1 crore at all times. The CEO must meet prescribed qualifications — including an insurance qualification such as the Insurance Institute of India’s Associateship or equivalent — and complete training. The company needs adequate infrastructure, trained staff (including medical professionals) and systems to handle claims and data securely.
TPA registration is currently valid for three years and must be renewed. In June 2026 IRDAI released a draft proposing perpetual registration for TPAs with an annual fee; until that is notified, the three-year renewal cycle applies.
