Home / Insurance — IRDAI / Insurance Marketing Firm (IMF) Registration (IMF) Registration

Last updated: 2 October 2026
An Insurance Marketing Firm can distribute insurance products of multiple insurers and, through its staff, other financial products such as mutual funds. Expertvuw’s team handles eligibility, Principal Officer and salesperson requirements, and the IRDAI application.
An Insurance Marketing Firm (IMF) is an intermediary registered under the IRDAI (Registration of Insurance Marketing Firm) Regulations, 2015, as amended in 2022 and by the IRDAI (Insurance Intermediaries) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026. It solicits and services insurance through Insurance Sales Persons, and can also distribute other financial products — such as mutual funds and pension products — subject to the rules of the relevant regulators.
An IMF can tie up with up to six life, six general and six health insurers. Since the 2022 amendments, an IMF can operate across all districts of the state in which it is registered. The applicant must be a company, LLP or other eligible entity with the prescribed net worth, a Principal Officer and trained, certified sales staff.
Under the 2026 amendment, IMF registration is perpetual subject to an annual fee. Principal Officers and sales persons must complete periodic training as prescribed.
