Last updated: 2 October 2026
Rebranding or changing your line of business may call for a new company name. Our team checks name availability, reserves the name, passes the approvals and files for the new certificate of incorporation — then updates your records.
Under section 13 of the Companies Act, 2013, a company can change its name by special resolution and approval of the Central Government (delegated to the Registrar):
A company that has not filed its annual returns or financial statements, or has not repaid deposits or interest, generally cannot change its name until the default is set right. After the change, the old name must be shown alongside the new one on documents and at the office for two years.
Based on the Companies Act, 2013 and the rules made under it. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
