New plants, expansions and infrastructure projects are financed on the strength of the project’s own cash flows. Expertvuw’s team prepares detailed project reports, financial models and loan documentation that lenders use to appraise the project. Funding decisions rest with the lenders.
In project finance, lenders look primarily at whether the project can generate enough cash to repay the debt. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) sets out the project concept, market, technical details, capacity, implementation schedule, cost of project and means of finance, and financial projections.
Lenders focus on key ratios and risks: the debt service coverage ratio (DSCR), debt-equity ratio, promoter contribution, break-even point, sensitivity to cost overruns and price changes, statutory approvals and environmental clearances, and the security package. Large projects may involve consortium lending, and certain sectors have specific RBI and lender norms.
Government schemes — such as the Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme for machinery-heavy MSME projects, CGTMSE for smaller MSE projects, and state capital subsidies — can improve the means of finance, subject to eligibility.
Basis: RBI directions on lending and project finance; lender appraisal norms; CGTMSE and Mutual Credit Guarantee Scheme guidelines; state industrial policies. Last updated: 27 September 2026.
