Home / Insurance — IRDAI / Corporate Agency Licence

Last updated: 2 October 2026
Companies, LLPs, banks, NBFCs and other entities that want to distribute insurance for multiple insurers can register with IRDAI as corporate agents. Expertvuw’s team handles eligibility, Principal Officer and Specified Person requirements, insurer tie-up planning and the IRDAI application.
A corporate agent distributes insurance products on behalf of insurers with which it has tie-ups. Corporate agents are regulated by the IRDAI (Registration of Corporate Agents) Regulations, 2015, as amended in 2022 and by the IRDAI (Insurance Intermediaries) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026.
Registration can be for life, general, health or composite (all three). Since the 2022 amendments, a corporate agent can tie up with up to nine insurers in each line — up to 27 for a composite agent. Entities whose exclusive business is insurance distribution need share capital and net worth of ₹50 lakh; other entities such as banks and NBFCs apply as part of their wider business. The applicant appoints a Principal Officer and Specified Persons, who complete training and pass the prescribed examination.
Under the 2026 amendment, corporate agent registration is perpetual subject to an annual fee, professional indemnity insurance is mandatory for eligible corporate agents, and an NOC process applies when designated persons move between intermediaries.
