Home / Insurance — IRDAI / Insurance Web Aggregator Licence

Last updated: 2 October 2026
An online platform that compares insurance products and passes leads to insurers must register with IRDAI as an insurance web aggregator. Expertvuw’s team helps with entity structure, capital, Principal Officer requirements, website disclosures and the IRDAI application.
An insurance web aggregator operates a website or app that provides information and price comparisons for insurance products from different insurers and shares leads with them. It is regulated by the IRDAI (Insurance Web Aggregators) Regulations, 2017, as amended by the IRDAI (Insurance Intermediaries) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026. Web aggregators remain a separate intermediary category.
The applicant must be a company or LLP with web aggregation as its main business, with minimum paid-up capital of ₹25 lakh and net worth maintained at that level at all times. A Principal Officer — a director or partner exclusively responsible for the business — must meet IRDAI’s qualification, training and examination requirements. Comparison displays must be unbiased and follow the regulations on product information, lead sharing and data protection.
Under the 2026 amendment, registration is perpetual subject to an annual fee. Web aggregators that also want to sell policies online through their platform may need ISNP permission.
