Last updated: 2 October 2026
Class 3 is now the only class of DSC issued in India. Expertvuw’s team helps you pick the right Class 3 certificate — individual, organisation or foreign national; signing or signing plus encryption; one to three years — and completes the application with a licensed Certifying Authority.
Since 1 January 2021, the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) has allowed only Class 3 Digital Signature Certificates to be issued. Class 3 certificates carry the highest assurance level and require identity verification with a video recording of the applicant.
An individual Class 3 DSC is issued in a person’s own name and used for filings such as director KYC, income tax returns and GST. An organisation DSC is issued to an authorised signatory in the name of an organisation and is often required for company tenders and some portals. Foreign nationals, including directors of Indian companies living abroad, can obtain a DSC with passport-based verification and apostilled or consularised documents as required.
Each DSC can be signing-only or signing plus encryption, with validity of one, two or three years.
Basis: Information Technology Act, 2000; CCA Identity Verification Guidelines for issuance of DSCs (Class 3 only from 1 January 2021). Last updated: 27 September 2026.
